Robert Kennedy was appointed Electoral Commissioner on 16 March 2020. Robert has worked in the public sector for over 25 years in research, policy, administrative and management roles. Prior to his appointment he led a diverse range of service delivery and policy units in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. He was also Official Secretary to the Governor, His Excellency Hon Kim Beazley AC for a short period where he oversaw a review of the support structures for the Governor.
His interest in electoral affairs began with his university studies in political science and continued with his first public sector role where he assisted the Commission on Government in making recommendations to Government about reforms to the electoral system such as one vote one value. Since that time he has taken a keen interest in elections and their importance in facilitating the community’s opportunity to have their say about how they are governed.
