Return of the Legislative Assembly writ
The writ for the Legislative Assembly for the 2025 WA State General Election has now been returned.
The Acting Electoral Commissioner Courtney Barron returned the writ to His Excellency, the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, Governor of Western Australia, confirming the names of the members elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of Western Australia.
The Clerk of the Assembly has also been advised of the names of members elected and provided a copy of the certified writ.
The writ for the Legislative Assembly has been returned expeditiously in 2025, with today being 55 days since the writ was issued. This is the earliest the writ for the Legislative Assembly has been returned in over 17 years.
While the return of the Legislative Assembly writ marks the completion of the election for the lower house, counting continues for the Legislative Council which is on track for completion next week.
Legislative Council vacancy filled
Ms Victoria Helps has been elected to the Legislative Council vacancy for the South Metropolitan Region following the resignation of the Honourable Stephen Pratt MLC.
Members of the Legislative Council who were elected in the 2021 WA State election run for a 4-year fixed term expiring on 21 May 2025. Ms Helps will fill the remainder of that term.
Qualified persons who stood for the South Metropolitan region in the at the 2021 State election were eligible to nominate for the vacancy.
As there was one nomination by a consenting candidate, a re-count of votes was not necessary and Ms Victoria Helps has been elected to fill the vacancy.
