It takes thousands of people to make a State Election happen

WA Electoral Commissioner Robert Kennedy

The act of casting your vote, of marking your preferred candidates and submitting your ballot papers, might seem straightforward. But it will take thousands of Western Australians working together across the state to ensure every eligible voter gets to have their say in the 2025 WA State Election.

To run the upcoming State Election on Saturday, 8 March, the WA Electoral Commission needs to recruit more than 10,000 people to work in the lead up and on election day. These workers will fill essential paid roles such as election day polling officers, working across early voting or being involved in vote processing and counting. We need to fill roles right across the state to ensure everyone from Perth metro to regional towns to the most remote communities have access to election services.

Our temporary election workforce is an integral part of facilitating our electoral system in Western Australia, so filling these jobs is vitally important. Providing Western Australians with an electoral experience that they understand, trust and can access easily and efficiently is the WA Electoral Commission’s purpose. It’s also essential to our democracy. As a State Election worker, you ensure every voter gets to have their say by providing a crucial compulsory service. Without you, our State Election and therefore our democratic process wouldn’t be able to happen.

In this way, working on an election offers an incredibly unique opportunity to connect with and contribute to our community. A State Election happens only once every four years and is a rare occurrence where the majority of Western Australians come together for the same purpose. Working in our temporary election workforce means being part of the team that comes together to bring this major event to the heart of every community and every person.

We’re looking for people from across Western Australia of all ages and backgrounds to work at the State Election. For us at the Commission, it’s an exciting time welcoming so many colleagues to our workforce and a huge privilege to be able to offer paid job opportunities to thousands of Western Australians during the State Election period.

Working on an election is a great way to gain valuable work experience, meet new people and learn new skills. But not only that, you will be a vital part in the election process, providing Western Australians with a State Election in 2025 that is inclusive, transparent and one they can trust.
