Candidate details available for the 2026 June Local Government Extraordinary Elections

Candidate Nominations closed on Tuesday 12 May for the six Local Governments scheduled to hold Extraordinary Elections on 25 June 2026 (listed below).

At the close of nominations, two out of the six Local Governments - the Shire of Dowerin and the Shire of Merredin - did not receive any candidate nominations and therefore are not proceeding to election.

Candidate details for the Local Governments proceeding to election are available on the WAEC website.

WA Electoral Commissioner Dennis O’Reilly said it is important that voters make informed decisions about who they want representing their communities.

“Local government is where your vote can make a real difference to how services and priorities are shaped in your area. I encourage everyone with an interest in their community to learn about the candidates, read their profiles and plan their vote ahead of receiving their election package,” Commissioner O’Reilly said.

Election packages will arrive via post in early June and must be returned in time to be received by 6:00pm on 25 June (election day).

Extraordinary elections are held to fill vacancies that arise between ordinary election cycles, for example, when a councillor resigns or is no longer eligible to serve, or if there were not enough candidate nominations to fill vacancies during ordinary elections.
