Local Government Extraordinary Elections postal vote deadline fast approaching

The Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) is reminding voters enrolled in the local governments holding elections (listed below) on 25 June to act quickly to ensure their vote is counted.

Voters must ensure their completed postal vote is received by 6.00pm on election day to be included in the count and are reminded to:

  • carefully follow the instructions on their ballot paper
  • sign the elector’s certificate
  • check Australia Post delivery times to ensure their vote arrives before the deadline.

The WAEC is encouraging voters to return their completed postal votes in the mail by Wednesday 17 June to ensure they are received by the Returning Officer in time. After this date, it’s recommended that voters hand-deliver their completed postal vote to their Local Government office. Votes received after the 6.00pm deadline on election day cannot be included in the count.

Electoral Commissioner Dennis O’Reilly said voting in local government elections plays a vital role in shaping local communities.
“Voting gives community members a direct say in who represents them and the decisions that shape their local area. By returning your postal vote on time, you can make sure your voice is heard,” Commissioner O’Reilly said.
