Local Government Extraordinary elections postal vote deadline fast approaching

Media Release Date
Wednesday, 18 March, 2026

More than 14,500 postal vote packages have already been returned for the upcoming Local Government Extraordinary Elections, with the Western Australian Electoral Commission urging remaining voters to act quickly to ensure their vote is counted.

Voters whose local government is holding an Extraordinary Election this month must ensure their completed postal vote is received by 6.00pm on election day to be included in the count.

Electors are reminded to:

  • carefully follow the instructions on their ballot paper
  • sign the elector’s certificate
  • check Australia Post delivery times to ensure their vote arrives before the deadline.

For those concerned their postal vote may not arrive in time, completed ballot papers in the supplied ballot paper envelope can also be hand‑delivered to the relevant local government office before 6.00pm on election day (either 26 or 28 March 2026, depending on the election). Please note replacement voting packages can also be requested from your local government office if required.

Electoral Commissioner Dennis O’Reilly said voting in local government elections plays a vital role in shaping local communities.

“Voting is your opportunity to have a say in who represents your community and how local decisions are made. Every vote matters, and returning your postal vote on time ensures your voice is heard,” Commissioner O’Reilly said.
