The Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) has officially declared the results of the four contested Local Government Extraordinary Elections held on 25 June 2026.
Voting closed at 6pm on Thursday 25 June, with ballot papers counted immediately following the close of polls.
Throughout the count, WAEC provided real time provisional results online, allowing electors, candidates and local governments to follow the progress of the count ahead of the formal declarations.
Electoral Commissioner Dennis O’Reilly said the successful delivery of the elections reflected WAEC’s continued commitment to improving election services and supporting local governments throughout the electoral process.
“These elections provided another opportunity to build on the experience gained during previous electoral events and continue refining our processes,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“We are committed to delivering transparent, accessible and trusted elections for Western Australian communities, and the publication of provisional results is an important part of that approach which we started in the Local Government Ordinary elections held in October last year.
“I would also like to thank the local governments, election staff, candidates and electors who contributed to the smooth delivery of these elections.”
Local Government Extraordinary Elections are conducted when vacancies remain unfilled following a local government election or when a councillor position becomes vacant between ordinary elections.
