The Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) has officially declared the results for the six local governments that proceeded to the extraordinary elections held on 24 September 2026.
More than 26,500 ballot papers were counted across all these local governments immediately following close of voting at 6.00pm on Thursday 24 September
“Every vote helps shape local decision-making. From the Murchison rangelands to the communities throughout the Perth region, it’s great to see people from across WA getting involved in their communities and having their say on who will represent them," said Dennis O’Reilly, WA Electoral Commissioner.
“Thank you to everyone involved in these elections, from the voters who cast their ballots to the candidates, local governments, and election staff who supported the process," he said.
Details for each of the local government extraordinary elections can be found on the WAEC website at 2026 September Local Government Extraordinary Elections | Western Australian Electoral Commission.
Local government extraordinary elections are conducted when vacancies remain unfilled following a local government election or when a councillor position becomes vacant between ordinary elections.
