On 31 August the Electoral Commissioner was informed by the Governor of a vacancy in the Legislative Council for the South West Region as a result of the disqualification from Parliament of Mr James Hayward.
The WA Electoral Commission is continuing to count votes for the 2023 local government elections. Final results for most local governments are expected to be published today.

The Western Australian Electoral Commission presented an information Q&A Webinar on how to understand the count process for the 2023 Local Government Elections on Thursday 25 May 2023.
On 22 February 2023, the Electoral Commissioner was informed by His Excellency the Governor that the Hon. Alannah MacTiernan, member for the South West Region had resigned and her position had become vacant.
As there were three eligible people who nominated, a re-count of votes was conducted on, 20 March at the Commission Offices at Level 2, 111 St Georges Terrace, Perth.
As a result of the re-count the Commissioner declared Ben Dawkins elected as a member of the Legislative Council to fill the vacancy.
