Legislative Council Vacancy - South West Region

The Electoral Commissioner has received formal advice from the Governor of a vacancy in the Legislative Council for the South West Region as a result of the resignation of the Hon Alannah MacTiernan. Accordingly, on Thursday, 9 March 2023 the Electoral Commissioner will place newspaper advertisements calling for nominations from eligible candidates who stood for that region at the last State general election.

Nominations will close at 12.00 noon on Monday, 20 March 2023.

Update on Technology Assisted Voting Request for Information (RFI) Release

The Western Australian Electoral Commission (‘Commission’) released a Request for Information (RFI) in December 2021 - seeking to engage with industry to ascertain the availability, suitability and viability of a Technology Assisted Voting solution for its range of electoral services undertaken.

Following the RFI closure (February 2022), the Commission appointed an internal Steering Committee to commence assessment of all RFI responses.

Election funding reimbursement amount

The public funding figure has been updated for the 2022 - 2023 financial year to $2.136827. As at 1 July 2022, the figure used to calculate the reimbursement of election funding has been adjusted (based on CPI) from $1.986053 to $2.136827 per vote for eligible candidates. Any candidate who receives more than 4% of first preference votes at a State election or by-election can apply to be reimbursed for election expenditure incurred.

South Australian By-Election - 2 July 2022

South Australian electors wishing to vote in the upcoming By-Election for the district of Bragg may cast an early vote at the Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) Offices at Level 2, 111 St Georges Terrace Perth from Wednesday 22 June 2022 until Friday 1 July 2022 during office hours (8.30am to 4.30pm) excluding the weekend of the 24th and 25th of June.

Electors who have completed a postal vote may also hand deliver it to the WAEC during the aforementioned period.
