The Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) is reminding all eligible electors that time is running out to return your postal voting package for the 2025 Local government elections, scheduled for this Saturday, 18 October 2025.
Local government elections are primarily conducted by postal vote, and all completed ballot papers must be received by 6:00pm on election day to be counted.
With the deadline fast approaching, voters are urged to submit their completed packages today to ensure their vote is included.
The Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) has already received over 113,000 postal vote packages for the 2025 Local Government Elections — a significant increase compared to this time during the 2023 Local Elections.
The WAEC encourages electors to complete their ballots and send it back as soon as possible so that it’s received by the 6pm 18 October deadline to be included in the count.

The Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) has confirmed a total of 1,068 candidates for the upcoming 2025 local government elections following the close of the nomination period at 4pm on Thursday 4 September.
Elections will be held across councils statewide, giving communities the opportunity to shape the future of their local areas through democratic participation.
All residents enrolled on the State electoral roll are automatically included on the corresponding local government roll for their district.
Western Australians are encouraged to consider nominating as a candidate in the upcoming local government elections. Nominations officially open Thursday 28 August and close 4:00pm Thursday 4 September 2025.
The WA Electoral Commission (WAEC) acknowledges the release of the Special Inquiry report conducted into the planning and delivery of the 2025 WA State election, led by the Honourable Malcolm McCusker AC CVO KC.
